Let’s talk.

Let’s begin the journey.

Together we will explore how to engage life, how to name our pain, and how to heal our traumas and losses. Rather than becoming lost in the past and lost in the pain, we find ways to create a bright unwritten future.

Together we will identify approaches and techniques that best suit your individual story and needs. Some of the techniques we may explore include: talk therapy, exploration of your family of origin, mindfulness practices, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Because your mind, body and spirit are all important, we will include a holistic approach to your healing. We will find your unique balance.

We will do it together.

Meet Emily

Some people ask does therapy work? Where do you begin? What’s the first step? I’m glad that you asked.

It was my own, very positive counseling experience that moved me. It changed me. I decided that I wanted to be a counselor. I loved the process. I loved the connection.

So, I went back to school to learn about serious mental illness as well as helping people cope with the day to day difficulties of life.

After earning my graduate degree in counseling from Vanderbilt University in 2005, I went to work at Centerstone, a not-for-profit mental health and substance treatment center. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I worked with adults suffering from severe depression and mental illness, some to the point of hospitalization. I saw first-hand that counseling can untangle the mind and inspire a new path.

It was this experience as a therapist, that led me to open my own private practice in 2012. And that is where we will begin.

My own childhood experience has helped me recognize coping mechanisms and identify crisis points. I understand how inherited or learned family traits can play a significant role in how we see life, attract or struggle with certain relationships, or live in the world without the peace, joy and empowerment that we need. Grief and loss therapy, whether from a death, or losses and traumas from childhood is one of my specialties and interests.
